Chris Eubanks recounts latest travel saga from Stockholm to Basel, by way of Munich

The American, who had a similar travel snafu to start 2023, filed this one under not-so-glamorous side to life as a tennis player. Tennis player Chris Eubanks had to navigate from Stockholm, Sweden to Basel, Switzerland from Munich after a first-round loss to eventual finalist Pavel Kotov in Stockholm, but his plans were thwarted when nearly all flights into Basel were cancelled due to a bomb threat at the airport due to fears of further disruption. Eubank had been planning to spend the night in Munich and fly from Munich to Frankfurt, but chose the second option of staying in Basel longer due to the threat. This follows a similar journey from Pune, India to Auckland, New Zealand in January.

While Chris Eubanks' 2023 on the tennis court has been full of breakthrough milestones, his worldwide travel has been a case of Murphy's law: Anything that can gone wrong, has gone wrong for the big American this year.

In January, Eubanks famously regaled his social media followers with the harrowing journey he took from Pune, India to Auckland, New Zealand at the start of the season, and now, at the season's end, he found himself embroiled in another—this time seeking to get to Basel, Switzerland from Stockholm, Sweden.

After a first-round loss to eventual finalist Pavel Kotov in Stockholm, Eubanks had hoped to fly from Stockholm to Munich with a connecting flight onto Basel, but a wrench was thrown into his plans when he was informed that nearly all flights into Basel were canceled Friday as a result of a bomb threat at the airport.

"The airline agent gave us two options," Eubanks wrote on X, the platform formerly called Twitter. "Spend the night in Munich and fly to Basel in the morning OR fly from Munich to Frankfurt then take a train to Basel last night.

"I wanted to have an extra full day in Basel to prepare so I chose option #2. That’s when things went bad."
